Use Pages! Don’t use Posts!
As we’ve already said, WordPress is a dream come true to just about anyone who wants to share content on the web. That means WordPress is regularly used by – you guessed it – bloggers! In fact, bloggers use it so often that it’s worthwhile to note a major way in which business owners will use WordPress differently than bloggers.
WordPress Website Company offers two basic types of content: pages and posts. If you’re making a webpage for your business, you’ll want to refrain from using posts. Leave the posts for the bloggers. Here’s why: Posts are like journal entries. They are attached to a date, and as you list them, they begin to accumulate in reverse chronological order. So many of us first timers make the mistake of creating a post intended to function as our front page only to find that it disappears into a list of all of our other posts. So instead, stick with pages.
Pages are great for creating static content – that is, content that stays in the same place and doesn’t change until you’re ready to update it. Now that you’re on board to make pages, it’s important to remember that one of the most important design features of any website, much less a website made through WordPress, is a home page. The first thing you’ll want to do is make a homepage for your site. In WordPress, you’ll set it up as a “static front page”. This front page will function to orient your reader to the basic content and features of your site, as well as what your site is about in the first place. To that end, you’ll want to be sure to include a large, clearly visible title on your homepage so that readers will be sure to know that they’ve reached the web-presence of your fabulous business.
Finally, although we’ve already clearly distinguished between the ways that business owners and bloggers will use WordPress, you might consider creating a blog through WordPress.
